A Bowl of Cherries or the Pits

Prayer for Peace Gracious and holy Father, You are the light of life, the
strength of my bones. You are the treasure incorruptible, the mercy
incomparable, and the joy unspeakable. Before all that is, you are, and forever
will be. You are the answer to all questions, the master of all you have
created, the dawning of the day and the glory of the night sky. There is none
like you, and there is no other God but my God. Grant to us, we pray, knowledge
and understanding that we may understand your ways. Help us to seek what is that
good, acceptable, and perfect will of God. Though we may falter, let us not fail
to serve you. Your plans for us, your people, are beyond all human knowledge,
yet you have revealed to us the mysteries of the ages by your Spirit and the
eternal Truth of your Word. The mountains may crumble, and the seas may boil
away, but your plan will be fulfilled. Even from before the Beginning, you knew
the End of all things. Not one of your promises ever fails, and what you have
said you will surely accomplish. We are the sheep of your pasture, and you lead
us ever to the green pastures of eternal rest. You have defeated the Enemy
already, and he and all those who serve him are bound for the pits of Hell and
the Eternal Lake of Fire. We have sinned most grievously
against you, even we who bear the name of Christ. Our eyes are blind to the
depravity of sin, and our ears are closed to the cries of the helpless. We have
failed to fellowship with you in prayer and in feeding on your Word. The ways of
the world have replaced your ways in our daily living. We take into our eyes,
ears, and minds all of the filth of the mundane, and turn our backs on the
sacred. Your call to witness we have ignored, and the commandment to love we
have disobeyed. Our light have we hidden under a bushel, and our salt has lost
its savor. Forgive us these our manifold sins we pray, and cleanse us by the
blood of Jesus of all unrighteousness. Heal, we pray thee, the blight on our
land. We will ever delight in you, that
you might give us the desires of our hearts, according to your promises. We
acknowledge you in all our ways, that you might give your angels charge over us.
We praise you that you neither slumber nor sleep, but that your eyes are upon us
even through the night watches. Though the Enemy may come against us, you have
overcome him already. Greater are you, who is in us, than he who is in the
world. We will defeat him with the word of our testimony and the blood of the
Lamb. The Devil is a liar, and a murderer from the beginning. The truth is not
in him. According to your promises, we face him, and he flees from us. Each day
we take up the armor you give us, and for our weapon we wield the Sword of the
Spirit, which is the Word of God. Lord Jesus, you are the Way, the
Truth, and the Life, and we know that no man comes to the Father but by you. We
praise you as our Savior and Lord. We know that when we gather in your name, you
are there in the midst of us. We confess as well that when we agree as touching
any thing, it will be done for us by our Father in Heaven. In your name we lift
our petitions to him, knowing and acknowledging that he will answer only in
accordance with his will. In faith believing we lift to you our prayers for
those we name just now in our minds and hearts. Some have physical needs and
diseases, but you are the Great Physician. Some are troubled in mind and spirit
by the burdens of life, but your are our Joy, our Strength, and our Shield. Some
are lost and bound for Hell, but you are the Savior of all, and every man who
calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Grant, we pray, your peace that
passes all understanding. The world can never know your peace, for it knows only
destruction. Our peace depends on your presence with us, and in us, and not on
the circumstances of life. Even in the midst of war, disease, death, and
destruction, you are our Peace. You are with us always, even to the end of the
age, and you tell us not to be troubled in our hearts. We rest beneath the
shadow of your wings. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem, as you tell us in your
Word, and we pray for the peace of the world. We pray your watch care over this
nation in our time of conflict, and we pray your protection over all of those
who fight our battles in far away places. Grant wisdom, strength, and
understanding to our leaders, by your Spirit, in Jesus' name. We pray for
revival in all our land, that the peace we know as a nation might come, not from
tanks, guns, and planes, but from the indwelling presence of your Holy Spirit. We bow humbly before,
acknowledging we are unworthy to be called your children, but for the grace
manifested in our Lord Jesus Christ. We will forever praise your most holy name,
in this world and in the world to come. In the name of our precious Lord and
only Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen |
