A Bowl of Cherries or the Pits
|
Song of Victory These things have I spoken to you that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world. John 16:33 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12 Life's ruined hopes as death embraces -- Sudden horror in nameless faces Shattered in the morning. Promises made and plans prepared Never dreaming the end would come Without a word of warning.
Hope held tight by a broken cord Knife-sharp pain that follows In reality's cold, dark dawning. A son is gone, a husband dead, A wife will never laugh again. How can the children know?
Blood flows hot in mounting rage Mingled with the fear And talk is all of war. Punish those who spit on love And break the cursed bands Who hate the brave and free.
Behind it all a figure lurks His agents pulling strings While he dodges blame. Not a man, nor of woman born But created in the strands of light That course around God's throne.
In eons past he cast off God Exalting in his pride. The father of all lies. Before its start, the battle lost, His legions all cast down And earth became his home.
We battle not against flesh and blood But the powers of the air The wicked in high places. A war not won with tanks and guns Nor with ships and planes But by the Spirit's sword.
We love this land we call our home And rally around the flag Against the hate-filled foe. It's right to stand against the dark And defend our liberty All around the world.
Yet, knowing that we must keep sight Of who we really are And who oppresses us. Battles rage and some are lost But no matter what may come. The war is already won!
Oh, victory in Jesus, my Savior forever He sought me, and he bought me With his redeeming blood. He loved me ere I knew him And all my love is due him. He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood. |
