Walking on Water

We had passed a long day in the heat of summer

Though it was a day of miracles.

He fed a great crowd with their women and children

And then he sent us all on our way.

We were well out to sea and the wind was a-blowin'

We thought at last we surely would drown.

Then we saw a strange sight walking on the water

We thought that he'd returned from the dead.

He - said - "Now, don't worry, boys, it's really just me, and

I wouldn't harm a hair on you head."

I said, "Lord, if it really is you, then,

Let me come walking to you."

He - smiled - and - said, "Come on ahead, now,

But never look around, just at me."

I was doing just great, till my eyes started wanderin'

I cried, "I'm sinkin', Lord, don't let me die."

He - reached - and - grabbed for my hand,

And pulled me to safety, then of a sudden

We were near land.

I knew that this man was the promised Messiah

And I would follow him to the grave.
