1 Samuel 2:1 And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation. 2 There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. 3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. 4 The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength. 5 They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.6 The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up. 7 The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. 8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, and he hath set the world upon them. 9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. 10 The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.
Daniel 9:4 And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession,
and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to
them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments; 5 We have
sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled,
even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments: 6 Neither
have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our
kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. 7
O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at
this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all
Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither
thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed
against thee. 8 O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings,
to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee. 9
To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have
rebelled against him; 10 Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our
God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.
11 Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that
they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the
oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have
sinned against him. 12 And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake
against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great
evil: for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon
Jerusalem.
13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us:
yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our
iniquities, and understand thy truth. 14 Therefore hath the LORD watched
upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is righteous in all
his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice.
15 And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the
land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day;
we have sinned, we have done wickedly. 16 O Lord, according to all thy
righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from
thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the
iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all
that are about us. 17 Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy
servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary
that is desolate, for the Lord's sake. 18 O my God, incline thine ear,
and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is
called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our
righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies. 19 O Lord, hear; O Lord,
forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for
thy city and thy people are called by thy name.
1 Chronicles 4:10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
Prayer of Solomon on Dedication of the Temple
2 Chronicles 6:36 If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which
sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their
enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near; 37
Yet if they bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and
turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned,
we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly; 38 If they return to thee
with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity,
whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou
gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and
toward the house which I have built for thy name:
39 Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their
prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people
which have sinned against thee.
Psalms 86:1.Bow down thine ear, O LORD, hear me: for I am poor and needy. 2 Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee. 3 Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily. 4 Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. 5 For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee. 6 Give ear, O LORD, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications. 7 In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.
Psalms 90:1 Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all
generations. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou
hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou
art God. 3 Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye
children of men. 4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday
when it is past, and as a watch in the night. 5 Thou carriest them away
as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which
groweth up. 6 In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the
evening it is cut down, and withereth.
7 For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.
8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light
of thy countenance. 9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we
spend our years as a tale that is told. 10 The days of our years are
threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years,
yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly
away. 11 Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy
fear, so is thy wrath. 12 So teach us to number our days, that we may
apply our hearts unto wisdom.
13 Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy
servants. 14 O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and
be glad all our days. 15 Make us glad according to the days wherein thou
hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil. 16 Let thy
work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children. 17 And
let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of
our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.
Psalms 142:1 <<Maschil of David; A Prayer when he was in the
cave.>> I cried unto the LORD with my voice; with my voice unto the LORD did I
make my supplication. 2 I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed
before him my trouble. 3 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then
thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare
for me. 4 I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man
that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul. 5 I cried
unto thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the
living. 6 Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from
my persecutors; for they are stronger than I.
7 Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous
shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.
Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Matthew 26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
Mary's Anthem of Praise
Luke 1:46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And
my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold,
from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. 49 For he that is
mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. 50 And his
mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. 51 He hath
shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of
their hearts. 52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and
exalted them of low degree. 53 He hath filled the hungry with good
things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. 54 He hath holpen his
servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; 55 As he spake to our
fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
The Great High Priestly Prayer
John 17:1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: 2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. 4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. 6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. 7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. 8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. 9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. 10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. 11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. 13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: 23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. 24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. 26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
Acts 4:24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God
with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and
earth, and the sea, and all that in them is: 25 Who by the mouth of thy
servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain
things? 26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered
together against the Lord, and against his Christ. 27 For of a truth
against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius
Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,
28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be
done. 29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy
servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, 30 By
stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by
the name of thy holy child Jesus.
